Welcome to Gaborone Gelato, where tradition meets taste right in the heart of Botswana. Our founder, Nayan, has been a part of this vibrant community since 1982, building both a family and a successful IT business here. But it's her passion for gelato that has truly captured the hearts of those around her.
Nayan's gelato journey began in 1990, sparked by a gift from a family friend—an original Carpigiani ice cream machine. This humble beginning, coupled with a manual process of pasteurising milk and blast freezing, quickly turned from a hobby into a local phenomenon. By 1994, Nayan was delighting customers at Spar Botswana with her small-batch, homemade gelato.
However, as life’s responsibilities grew, including raising two children, gelato making had to take a back seat. That was until 2024, when Nayan decided to rekindle her love for gelato making. She travelled to the picturesque hills of Lucca, Italy, where she immersed herself in a two-week intensive course with some of the region's finest gelato makers.
Armed with authentic techniques and renewed vigour, Nayan returned to Botswana, bringing with her a new Carpigiani machine to continue her craft. Today, Gaborone Gelato is a testament to her dedication—offering authentically made Italian gelato crafted with the finest local ingredients. Each scoop is not just a treat but a part of Nayan's enduring love story with gelato.
